HONC 2008 Junior Award Winner – Joe in the saddle

Mad keen Kingsheath mountain biker Joe Shannon's been tipped for the top by judges at a major event.

The 16-year-old rode in the Hell of the North Cotswolds recently and won a brand new mountain in a prize draw open to junior riders.

Joe, of Ashburton Road, has been riding since he was just two years old and devotes all his spare time to the sport.

He has been given a professional Marin Palisades Trail bike worth £650 by management at Red Kite Cycles in Shirley, Solihull.

Red Kite owner Mike Adams: “Joe's a good lad and this bike will help him take his interest in the sport to the next level.”

Joe is studying photography at Wheeler’s Lane technical college and comes from a sporting background. His dad Simon is a former time trial road bike racer and the family often hire bikes when they go on holiday.

He said: “Winning this bike is just great. It's an expensive machine and I can't wait to get up into the hills and try it out.”
